Update Mar 12, 2025:

MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIRMAN:

Great news! The entire Foothills Trail will open on April 1st!

Open, not 100% recovered.

There are many areas that are still unrefined and need to be smoothed out and drained. Campsites are still in need of repairs and it’s a work in progress. Please use good judgement in choosing your campsites, check closely for widow makers! Be prepared for areas that may be muddy and slick after rain showers. Pay close attention, there are new confusing intersections and we will be updating the blazes and adding some signage through out the summer.

Please see the statement below from Duke Power that maintains a large section of the trail:

The Trail suffered a devastating blow from Hurricane Helene on September 27, 2024. This required the use of equipment to expedite the clearing and repair of the Trail in many places and these sections are still unrefined and possibly muddy so additional care should be taken when accessing the Trail sections. We are working to get these areas smoothed out and draining properly ASAP. Campsite repairs are ongoing and will take many more months.

YOUR CONTINUED HELP NEEDED! We are continuing to make heavy use of trail maintenance equipment and supplies, as we work to complete reopening the trail and restoring damaged sections. These include saw repairs, extra bars, chains, bar oil, etc. Your contributions to continue funding this effort are greatly appreciated!
