After decades of service, the 225-ft suspension bridge over the Toxaway River has been refurbished by Duke Energy. Originally built by the construction section of Duke Power, the complete overhaul was carried out by Crowder Construction Company in just 60 days. During this time men and materials had to be boated and barged up Lake Jocassee. Due to innovative construction methods and procedures, hiker delays were practically nonexistent along the Foothills Trail during this time. Cleanup around the site may last for another week.
